Highland County's Music Makers Museum Joins America 250-Ohio Creativity Trail
The Visitors Bureau of Highland County is thrilled to announce that the Music Makers Museum, located just east of Hillsboro on U.S. Route 50, has been officially designated as a stop on the America 250-Ohio Creativity Trail. This recognition places the museum among 108 sites across Ohio celebrating the state's rich artistic heritage as part of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States.
The Ohio Creativity Trail, launched in February 2025, is the second of six experiential trails under the America 250-Ohio's "Trails & Tales" program. It highlights Ohio's contributions to various artistic disciplines, including literature, music, visual arts, glass & pottery, folk & traditional art, and carousels.
The Music Makers Museum stands out as Highland County's sole representative on this trail. Curated by Charlotte Pack, the museum offers an immersive journey through the evolution of recorded music, from Thomas Edison's hand-cranked phonographs to modern digital devices. Visitors can explore over 50 playable phonographs and various recording media, experiencing firsthand the sounds that shaped America's musical landscape.
The museum's interactive exhibit, "How'd We Get Here?", invites guests to delve into the stories of early recording artists and the technological advancements that revolutionized music consumption. This hands-on approach provides a unique educational experience for all ages.
Charlotte Pack expressed her enthusiasm about the partnership: "This is an exciting opportunity to promote Ohio’s music history and showcase the hidden gems in our state. By working together, we can discover the hidden treasures of creativity among us."
Jamie Wheeler, Executive Director of the Visitors Bureau of Highland County, added, "This designation is a wonderful recognition of Highland County’s rich musical heritage and creative spirit. We invite travelers to explore all that Highland County has to offer—our scenic parks, local shops, restaurants, and events."
The Music Makers Museum is open by appointment from April through November. Visitors are encouraged to schedule their visit at least one week in advance by calling 937-763-1864. For more information, visit www.musicmakersmuseum.com.
