Highland County's America 250 Celebration concludes with Hillsboro Military Band Concert

Celebrate America’s 250th Birthday with an authentic “living history” concert recreating the Hillsboro Military Band presented by the Highland County Historical Society. The Hillsboro Military Band provided music for the community from the 1880s through 1910s.  As the Hillsboro News-Herald declared in 1913, “that a good band is a good thing for a town needs no argument.” American Musical Productions will illustrate that point by transporting audiences back to the golden age of the town band and the halcyon days of Hillsboro.

Joseph N. Rubin conducts a 20-piece concert band of Central Ohio’s finest musicians attired in period uniforms. The FREE 80-minute concert culled from recently discovered Hillsboro Military Band programs will feature many beloved band classics. Step back in time to hear the same music your great-great-grandparents enjoyed on the same spot including “Light Cavalry Overture,” “The Merry Widow Waltz” “Selections from The Bohemian Girl,” along with patriotic selections and, of course, marches by John Philip Sousa!

One of the foremost authorities on historic American music, Joseph N. Rubin has restored, produced, and conducted “living history” concerts and musicals across the country.  Mr. Rubin founded American Musical Productions, a Canton, Ohio based 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and performing historic American Musical Theatre and Popular Song 1890-1940. www.americanmusicalproductions.org
